This sweet-sounding concoction isn’t a confection; it’s an herbal recipe for soft, shiny hair! The lavender strengthens and marshmallow root coats hair while soothing dryness and inflammation of the scalp. It has a light, pleasant scent that will make this homemade conditioner your new favorite hair care recipe.
Not to brag or anything, but I get a lot of compliments on my hair. I’ve always had long, brown, wavy hair, and it’s definitely come a long way.
I used to rely on commercial shampoos and conditioners. From sulfates to parabens, many people find the ingredients used in commercial products to do more harm than good.
When I switched to using my own recipe, I immediately noticed how much healthier my hair was. So now, when people compliment my hair, I say thank you and gift them this recipe!
Here’s how you can make your own conditioner and reap the powerful benefits of marshmallow root and lavender for your hair.
Before You Begin: Homemade Conditioner and Lotion
Homemade conditioner is easier than you think When I first started making my own herbal skin and hair care products, I was a little apprehensive about making lotions and conditioners. It all seemed a bit complicated and I was afraid that I wouldn’t get the technique right.
After taking a few beginner classes, then an advanced class, I realized that not only is it a fairly simple process once you get the hang of it, but you can actually do it. High quality products at much cheaper prices rather than having to spend money to buy something similar.
If you’re a soap maker, then you know that soap making is expensive. And if you’re not a soap maker, then you’ve definitely seen the price tag on a bar of handmade soap. Quality ingredients come at a price, and the effort (and love) involved in making soap is quite involved.
But lotion is a whole different story. Lotion is mostly water. The small amounts of oil, emulsifying wax, and other ingredients you use are so small that they barely form a mixture. However, the final lotion or conditioner is so rich and luxurious, you’d think there was more to the formula.
Buying the starting ingredients can be expensive, but they will last a long time and create multiple batches of high quality conditioner.
Homemade Lavender Root + Marshmallow Conditioner Recipe
Sometimes I’m surprised to learn that not everyone uses conditioner. I’d be lost in a rat’s nest of tangles and frizz without it! Conditioners have amazing nourishing properties that coat each strand of hair for easy detangling while reducing split ends and nourishing dry hair..
Marshmallow root is a mucilaginous herb that is often used on its own as a natural hair conditioner. In this recipe, I used prepared marshmallow root tea to replace part of the water in the conditioner.
This formula is Suitable for dry hair in need of moisture. Use the conditioner for a few weeks, then switch to another formula (like this rosemary one) once your hair has recovered.
